Richard Montgomery Butler

On Simpson Co 1850 census as 6 years old.

Richard enlisted in the Conferate Army on 13 Aug 1862 at Dallas, TX. His war record indicates that he served as a Private in Co. E, 18th Regt. of the TX Calvary, under the command of Capt. J. T. Coit and Lt. W. M. Allison. According to records, he was
captured at Camp Nelson, ARK on 11 Jan 1863. On 2 Apr 1863 Richard was listed on the Roll of Prisoners of War who were paroled to Camp Douglas, IL, but he was delivered to City Point, VA on 10 Apr 1863.

According to an entry in the family bible of John J. Butler, Richard M. Butler was killed when a soldier went berserk and shot Dick and four others in the barracks and then shot himself.
